Iceland
Iceland is geology on fast-forward — waterfalls at highway pull-offs, black-sand beaches, geothermal steam escaping mid-field — and it divides cleanly into two trips. The ring road in late summer, when the highlands open and the light never quite leaves; and deep winter for the ice caves and the aurora. We plan both, never in the same suitcase.
