Kenya is the safari of the imagination — open grassland, flat-topped acacias, and the Mara river crossings that run from late July into September, when the migration herds gamble the current. But the country's second act is just as strong: elephant herds under Kilimanjaro, northern deserts, a Swahili coast. We book the crossings a year out and build the rest around them.
